I created a Discord economy bot during the COVID pandemic that quickly grew to over 100 servers and a community of 800+ users. The bot featured an engaging economy system where players could trade items, earn virtual currency through various activities, and participate in dynamic events that granted money and rare items. Users could also interact with one another via features like fighting duels and mini-games, which made the experience fun and interactive. Throughout this project, I learned and adapted to many technologies, including MongoDB for managing the database, Heroku for hosting the bot, and the Discord.js library to interface with Discord’s API. Keeping up with Discord.js’s frequent updates was challenging but rewarding. I also built and nurtured a growing community around the bot within the Discord server itself. Unfortunately, when Heroku discontinued its free hosting plan and I was unable to verify the bot, it went out of service, which was disappointing. However, this was an incredible learning journey for me, and I’m proud of how far the bot and community grew. It was a cool project, and I don’t plan to improve or continue it — it’s done, but definitely a great experience.
