In my first year with the FIRST Tech Challenge team 19498 Devolotics, I served as both a builder and programmer for our competitive robot, PLUTO. Over a 10-month season, we designed, built, and coded a robot for the Centerstage challenge. PLUTO featured a mecanum drivetrain for omnidirectional movement, angled linear slides, a surgical tubing intake, and a pixel storage/deposit system with two degrees of motion. We also engineered a drone (paper airplane) launcher and a hanging mechanism. On the software side, I helped develop an autonomous program using Java, TensorFlow, and OpenCV, enabling the robot to detect team props, navigate the field, and score points without driver input. Our efforts led to a #2 ranking in Ontario and qualification for the 2024 World Championships in Houston, Texas. I also contributed to CAD design using Onshape, subsystem optimization, and version control via GitHub. This experience strengthened my skills in robotics, teamwork, and real-world engineering. Being part of a high-performing team taught me how to rapidly iterate designs, debug complex systems, and stay adaptable under competitive pressure—essential skills I now bring to every technical challenge.
